Former Ballard County special deputy charged with theft and official misconduct
BALLARD COUNTY, KY — A former Ballard County special deputy has been charged with theft and official misconduct.
Sheriff Ronnie Giles says he was informed on Monday that some money had gone missing during a traffic stop.
Body camera footage showed that there was money present during the traffic stop and that the money went missing before the traffic stop ended.
Giles says only two people had access to the car during that traffic stop, one full-time deputy and Special Deputy Derek Turner.
Detectives with the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department were asked to look at the body camera video and interview the two deputies.
They found enough evidence to charge Turner on theft and official misconduct. He was arrested and taken to the McCracken County Regional Jail.
Giles says Turner has been removed from the special deputy roster and can no longer act in any official capacity in the sheriff’s office.
He also said,” Actions like this will not be tolerated and will be dealt with accordingly, regardless of who it is.”
