Perry County Sheriff’s Office laying off employees due to budget cuts

PERRY COUNTY, IL — Perry County Sheriff Steve Bareis says he has had to layoff employees due to a budget cut.

The county has been looking into making $1 million in budget cuts to cover payroll and bills.

Bareis says the sheriff’s office took a cut of $534,000 with the county’s amended budget.

In a Facebook post, Bareis said he had asked to go to a 32 hour work week, but that union members voted it down.

He said that meant the only option left was layoffs.

Bareis did not say how many people were being given layoff notices.
