I-24 eastbound near Kuttawa, KY back open after deadly crash

UPDATE: 1:45 P.M. The crash site is clear and all lanes are now open.


UPDATE: 10:10 A.M. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says there is one lane of eastbound I-24 open at exit 40.

Traffic is moving very slowly and there is a substantial backup.

The road is expected to be fully-reopened around 2:00 p.m.

UPDATE 9:45 A.M. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says they now expect I-24 eastbound to be blocked at exit 40 until about 2 p.m.

To help reduce backup, eastbound traffic is urged to exit I-24 at Calvert City exit 27 and follow US 62 eastbound into Eddyville to take KY 93 south to return to I-24 at exit 45.


UPDATE 7:15 A.M. Kentucky State Police Trooper Jay Thomas says one person has died in the crash.

I-24 eastbound continues to be detoured at exit 40. The road is expected to be blocked until 11:00 a.m.


LYON COUNTY, KY — A crash is blocking the eastbound lanes of Interstate 24 near Kuttawa.

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet says there has been a crash between the US 62 exit 40 interchange and the I-24/I-69 exit 43 interchange.

All eastbound traffic is blocked. Drivers can detour via exit 40 to US 62 east to KY 93 south to return to I-24 eastbound at exit 45.

There is no impact on I-24 westbound traffic.

Eastbound I-24 is expected to be blocked until about 11:00 a.m.

No word of any injuries at this time.
