Man charged with firing gun inside Carbondale Police Department
CARBONDALE, IL — A Murphysboro man has been charged after he allegedly fired a gun in the Carbondale Police Department.
On Saturday, Carbondale police were called to Rue 21 on report of theft and battery. Officers arrested 36-year-old Eric Brown of Murphysboro and took him to the Carbondale Police Department for prisoner processing.
While inside the police department, Brown allegedly pulled out a concealed gun and fired at an officer. The officer got out of the room and Brown remained barricaded inside.
Police negotiated with Brown who eventually relinquished the gun. No one was injured during the incident.
Brown was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, aggravated unlawful use of weapons, aggravated assault, bringing contraband into a penal institution, possession of a stolen firearm, and unlawful use of weapons by a felon.
Brown is in the Jackson County Jail. A investigation is ongoing.
