Democrat Andy Beshear earns support from pro-choice groups, receives backlash from Republicans
FRANKFORT, KY — Democrat Kentucky Governor Nominee, Andy Beshear, recently earned the support of Planned Parenthood and the National Abortion Rights Activist League (NARAL) for his campaign.
NARAL showed their support for Beshear on May 20th, the day before the Kentucky Primary elections.
Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America said, “Kentucky women and families deserve someone who will fight for them as governor, and Andy Beshear has always been there to defend Kentuckians’ rights and freedoms.”
She continued to say, “Now more than ever, as women’s fundamental freedoms are under attack, Kentuckians need their leaders to fight to protect reproductive rights. Andy represents our strongest bet to defeat Bevin, bring real change to Frankfort, and protect the rights of all Kentucky families. NARAL is proud to endorse his candidacy.”
Before the Kentucky Primary elections, Beshear said, “I am pro-choice — I believe in Roe v. Wade.” He continued to say that he took action when the bills were being passed by writing letters to legislative leaders. He also publicly announced that the bills were unconstitutional.
“The radical, pro-abortion agenda of Democrats like Andy Beshear and his out-of-state, special interest allies is completely out of step with Kentuckians’ values,” Republican Party of Kentucky Executive Director Sarah Van Wallaghen said. “Beshear boasting about the endorsement of extremist allies like NARAL shows that he is far more interested in courting the support of deep-pocketed liberal donors than protecting innocent lives.”
Beshear shared his appreciation for NARAL in a Facebook post.
On elections day, the Public Affairs and Policy Director at Planned Parenthood Advocates of Indiana and Kentucky (PPAIK), Tamarra Wieder, announced their support by saying, “With an increased focus on abortion policy in state legislatures, we (Kentuckians) need elected leaders like Attorney General Andy Beshear to help lead on reproductive rights because progressives are a growing force to be reckoned with and the fight for bodily autonomy is central to our health, our rights, and our freedoms.”
‘Bevin for Governor’ campaign manager, Davis Paine, expressed his thoughts on Planned Parenthood’s support of Beshear, “It is a sad day for Kentucky when the nation’s leading abortion advocate is “proud” of our state because of how liberal the Democratic nominee for governor is on his refusal to protect the unborn.”
He continued to say, “It’s clear Beshear is more interested in pushing national liberals’ reckless agenda than protecting Kentucky values.”
Current Governor and Republican Governor Nominee, Matt Bevin, is doing the opposite of Beshear. In a tweet posted earlier in May, he said he is fighting boldly to protect the sanctity of life.

Bevin has signed four bills and four laws that put more restrictions on abortion access. Nearly all of them have been struck down temporarily or permanently in federal court.
