CARBONDALE,IL — Seven-year-old Patrice Dotson of Carbondale was found safe Tuesday afternoon after she was reported missing the night before.

She was last seen at 6 p.m. Monday in the 600 Block of West Cherry Street. Word of her disappearance spread quickly, and dozens of community joined the search to find her.

After searching for nearly 14 hours, crews found Patrice more than two miles away, behind the gates to a property in the 1500 block of North Marion Street.

After hours of searching, Sincearae Dotson is finally able to hold her little girl. “This is my baby. This is my baby,” Sincearae said. “Relief, relief. That’s all. Relief.”

“I don’t wish this on anybody. I don’t wish this on my worst enemy,” she said. “I really don’t.”

Sincearae said Patrice has told her a woman picked her up and took her to the property where she was eventually found. Sincearae said she will work with Carbondale Police to find out who that woman is and more about what happened between the time her daughter disappeared and when she was found.

Randy and Terry were among the volunteers who canvassed the area and handed out flyers. “We both have children. I have two sons and a daughter at home. We both came out to support our community. It’s all about these kids at the end of the day,” said Randy.

Randy said he’s overjoyed this story has a happy ending.

“Really relieved and she’s alive at that,” said Randy.
