Southeast Missouri man sentenced to 12 years on child pornography charge
CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO — A southeast Missouri man was sentenced to 144 months in federal prison on a child pornography charge Wednesday.
Last August, law enforcement officials learned 48-year-old Joel C. Williams of Bertand, Missouri, was using a social media site to get child pornography photos and videos, a news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Missouri says. Investigators got a search warrant for Williams’ computers and other electronics, in which they found child porn photos and videos.
Williams pleaded guilty to one count of possessing child pornography in March.
The news release says Williams was already a registered sex offender because he pleaded guilty to second degree statutory sodomy in Scott County, Missouri, in 2001. The release says in that case Williams admitted to committing the offense against two minors.
Once he has completed his prison sentence, the release says Williams will have to stay under supervised release, also known as parole, for the rest of his life. He will continue to be required to register as a sex offender.
