Police body camera video shows fireworks shot at Paducah officers
PADUCAH — Police body camera video shows people shooting fireworks at officers in Paducah on the Fourth of July.
Video obtained by Local 6 shows people throwing fireworks at officers at a local apartment complex. As Local 6 has previously reported, one officer was hit with pieces of a mortar, which the police department said burned the officer’s uniform in places. The video also shows officers walking with pepperball guns, which shoot pepperball pellets — projectiles that irritate a person’s eyes and nose similar to pepper spray.
The Paducah Police Department has said dispatchers received multiple calls around 10 p.m. on Independence Day about disturbances in the Elmwood Court apartment complex.
When officers arrived at the complex, the police department said a mortar aerial firework was launched at them. The officers found a large crowd of people shooting fireworks and paintballs at each other, as well as at buildings and vehicles. The police department says a police cruiser was hit by paintballs.
Police said two minors were cited on charges of disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and curfew violation. The department has said the investigation is ongoing regarding the fireworks shot at the officers, which may result in assault charges.
