Kids fish with cops in local fishing tournament

KEVIL, KY — Local kids spent Saturday morning fishing with cops in a local fishing tournament.

The Ballard and McCracken County Sheriff’s Offices joined together for a fishing tournament called Cops and Bobbers.

Kids aged 5 to 15 competed for trophies and prizes while getting some tips and help from local officers.

Ballard County Sheriff Ronnie Giles says the event inspires pure joy.

“We’ve always been involved in events with kids and the outdoors with hunting and fishing,” Giles said. “It’s something we’ve done for many years. Most of my guys in the department that I grew up with, we’ve always been involved in it, and we get a lot of joy out of it ourselves.”

Giles says they hope to make the fishing tournament a yearly tradition.
