Job Openings

WPSD Local 6, the NBC affiliate in the 88th market, needs a newsroom leader and innovator to manage and continue to give us excellent, strong journalism with the best news content on our many platforms. You need to be so plugged in to the digital news world that you’re eager to find and be a first adopter of that next great thing.

We’re in the OTT world, and looking for you to grow it and become THE expert. You’ll manage our website, mobile apps and social media platforms. You have great ideas about growing audience and engagement. You intuitively understand the interconnectedness of all the content we produce. You know how to gather, write and produce news and get it delivered in the format unique to each platform.

While you have boundless energy and a new idea every 15 seconds, at the same time you are a calm, caring, patient and kind teacher. You speak plain English — not coder jargon. You’ll know what is meant if you’re asked to “explain it to me like I’m a four year old.”

We’re not going to list the software and technologies you need to understand. If you are qualified for this job, you know what they are. If you’re confused now, you’re not.

You take your role as a key newsroom manager and leader very seriously. You have two full-time digital producers and a part-time weekend digital producer to supervise, but more importantly, constantly teach. We have a 50-person news staff, and you are responsible for developing and managing the digital skills and work product of all of them. You will also offer assistance and advise to other departments like Promotions, Creative Services and Sales.

You are not confused by words like FOIA, transparency, storytelling and the Bill of Rights. You’ve actually read a nonfiction book in the past month, probably read and study regularly for pleasure things like history, current events, culture, journalism, character and technology.

Send a letter specifically addressing the elements outlined above and how you qualify for the job. Include a complete resume and links to examples of what you think proves your case to News Director Perry Boxx at No snail mail.
