Job Openings

WEEKEND METEOROLOGIST:

WPSD LOCAL 6, the NBC affiliate in the 82nd market, seeks a talented weekend meteorologist. Our staff works hard, and colleagues frequently land in much larger markets after honing their skills with our awarding-winning staff. We’ve recently lost three teammates to Nashville, New Orleans, and Knoxville.

You know WSI, every social media platform, are familiar with wall-to-wall “tag-team” weather coverage, congenial and collaborative. You are a graphics whiz and a great weather storyteller. You cringe when you hear terms like “frontal boundary” and “convection” on air. You are warm, reassuring, conversational and credible. Everyone likes you and believes you.

We are the Weather Authority in our market. Tracking storms is quite simply the most important work we do. It is work that literally saves lives. We expect an absolute commitment from our team to do whatever it takes to serve our viewers in four states — on every platform — better than anyone else, without regard for our own comfort or convenience.

You are an idea person, understand that weather has a lede story every day, are a self-starter and, while an independent decision maker, you are also a team player. You are ready to work in a high energy, competitive environment, producing weather content for multiple platforms. You’ll work in a powerful, well-equipped, award-winning news operation where the First Amendment and Speaking Truth to Power matters. You’ll learn a lot and have fun, too!

Oh, and we’re family owned. You won’t have six corporate news directors, four colly birds, three French hens, two turtle doves etc., constantly telling you what’s wrong with your work and expecting you to do live shots from a window replacement store.

Degree in meteorology or a related science field, broadcast seal and two years of experience preferred. Send cover letter, resume and video link to Perry Boxx, News Director at pboxx@wpsdlocal6.com. No snail mail or DVDs.

MMJ/NEWS REPORTER:

WPSD LOCAL 6 seeks an excellent MMJ/reporter.  You should have an outstanding track record of hard news reporting and live work.

Our journalists work hard and frequently land in much bigger markets after honing their skills with our awarding winning staff.  Three recently went on to Nashville, Atlanta, and Knoxville.

You probably read and study regularly, for pleasure, subjects including history, current events, culture, journalism and character.

You are not afraid to demand transparency, Speaking Truth to Power with the questions you ask and understand there is a reason the First Amendment is first.

You can shoot, go live, write, edit and develop sources. You know social media best practices, and you are a team player. You are a compelling storyteller and the best writer among your peers.

You expect to fight to have the lede story every day. You know how to fight the freedom of information battle and won’t take no for an answer. We have the tools you need to be successful, including eight photographers, live backpacks and two live trucks.
