WPSD Local 6, the NBC affiliate in the 88th market, needs a newsroom leader to manage and continue to give us excellent, strong journalism with the best news content on our many platforms.

We’re in the OTT world, and looking for you to grow it and become THE expert. The ideal candidate needs to be capable of managing our website, mobile apps and social media platforms. They also need to be an innovator and be able to flesh out great ideas to grow our audience and engagement. That candidate must also understand the interconnectedness of all the content the newsroom produces. Knowing how to gather, write and produce news – then deliver it in the format unique to each platform is crucial.

The candidate will take your role as a key newsroom manager and leader seriously. We expect this person to not only guide their staff, but also teach younger journalists in our newsroom. We have a 50-person news staff, and you are responsible for developing and managing the digital skills and work product of all of them. The successful candidate will directly supervise three digital content producers. The candidate will also offer assistance to other departments such as Promotions, Creative Services and Sales.

We are a newsroom driven by a passion for journalism – and expect the same from the candidate. Things like Freedom of Information, transparency, storytelling and the Bill of Rights should be familiar to you.

Send a letter specifically addressing the elements outlined above and how you qualify for the job. Include a complete resume and links to examples of what you think proves your case to News Director Perry Boxx at No snail mail.

You are the ultimate morning person; so full of energy and truly excited to be at the top of the day’s news cycle.  You LOVE television journalism.  You know the meaningful connections that an anchor can make at the beginning of someone’s day.  Is my world safe?  What happened overnight?  What’s on the day’s agenda?  What really matters?  What do I NEED to know?  You have this intuitive sense about how to make a broadcast come alive.  It’s about the chemistry between you and the rest of the team. It’s about the stories you want in the newscast.  It’s about trust, credibility, meaningful information and making your viewers glad they are alive for another day.  You can also be a top no nonsense, take no prisoners, don’t mess with the 1st Amendment reporter at a moment’s notice.  NO ONE scares you.  There’s nothing at stake here except the Bill of Rights and the future of the country.

We are WPSD LOCAL6, the well-equipped, award winning, family owned NBC affiliate in the 88th market.  We like being number one and expect you to help us stay there.  We need a great morning co-anchor to team with one of our market’s most popular and well known anchormen.  You need to be a newsroom leader.  We expect that from all of our anchors.  We also expect you to know how to shoot, edit and write powerful stories.  We have a group of talented photographers but you’re not too good to WANT to pick up a camera sometimes.  You understand it gives you powerful control.

You are a Journalist, not confused by words like FOIA, transparency, storytelling and the Bill of Rights.  You’ve actually read a non-fiction BOOK in the last month, probably read and study regularly, for pleasure, things like history, current events, culture, journalism and character.

Send an email specifically addressing the elements outlined above and how you qualify for the job.  Convince me you want to work in a First Amendment Newsroom in the heart of America.  Include a complete resume and links to examples of what you think proves your case to Perry Boxx, News Director at No snail mail.  WPSD-TV is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, sex, age, national origin, or disability.
