Chief Photographer Mike Spissinger is, in the newsroom, affectionately referred to as Spiss.
Born and raised in St. Louis, MO, and a graduate of Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, Spissinger initially focused on print journalism in college but fell in love with news during a television class.
In 1984, Spissinger accepted a fulltime position with WPSD and has called the station home ever since.
He’s won numerous awards from the Kentucky Associated Press, the Kentucky News Photographers Association nominated for 6 Mid-America Emmy awards and even won one. He’s also a recipient of the 2015 Mid-America Silver Circle, which are not awards, but a society of honor. The Silver Circle recognizes individuals who have devoted a quarter of a century or more to the television industry, and who also have made a meaningful and significant contributions to broadcasting and/or new media.
Spissinger is one of 3 WPSD licensed FAA drone pilots. Spissinger hoped to be a hair model but as you can see from his photo, he’s parted with that dream, (pun intended). When he’s not toting around a camera, you can find him and his wife, Carrie, riding a bicycle built for two around Paducah. He has a daughter, Hannah and 3 associate kids, Leigh, Sam and Kate.
