LYON COUNTY, KY — Local, state and federal law enforcement officers are conducting a manhunt in Lyon County for a man wanted on federal charges.
Investigators with the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office, Kentucky State Police and the U.S. Marshal’s Service are searching the area off of Kentucky 810 south and the KY 1271 area for 30-year-old James Dowell.
County Judge Executive Wade White says Dowell is a federal fugitive and may be armed. He fled from investigators in Marshall County in a vehicle. He then went to the Suwanee area, where he hid his car and ran away.
Dowell’s vehicle has been found, White says, and an accomplice has been taken into custody.
Dowell is a white man with a large tattoo on the right side of his face. According to the Kentucky Department of Corrections, Dowell is 6 feet, 1 inch tall and weighs 230 pounds. He has previous convictions in McCracken County for drug trafficking and second degree possession of a firearm by a felon, as well as in Ballard County for drug trafficking, theft and third degree burglary. The state’s offender lookup website says Dowell was on parole, but has absconded.
If you see someone you believe is Dowell, investigators say do not approach him. Instead, call 911.
