Former McCracken County baseball standout Rook Ellington is transferring from the University of Kentucky to the State College of Florida, a junior college in Bradenton, Florida.
In his freshman season with UK, Ellington played in 23 of their 55 games, but only got 18 at-bats for the season, collecting four hits. Ellington’s dad Kip says this move will give his son the chance to get as many reps and at-bats as possible next season. Due to his age, Ellington will be eligible to be selected in the 2020 MLB Draft next June. The New York Mets were interested in drafting Ellington in 2018 directly out of high school, but the two sides ended up too far apart on money.
Ellington earned First Team All-State and Region 1 Player of the Year honors while at McCracken County.
