WPSD LOCAL6, the NBC affiliate in the 84th market seeks a Chief Photographer.  The successful applicant will be a top quality photojournalist and respected manager with a track record of developing excellent news photographers, editors and MMJs. We are looking for a manager who leads by example. Our current Chief is retiring after 37 years and there are big shoes to fill. 

The Chief is responsible for video quality control of our content, maintaining our equipment and fleet, archiving and edit systems, scheduling photographers and editors, and working with our vendors, suppliers and customer support.  The Chief is the technical point of contact for news special projects events and will work closely with the Chief Engineer and Operations Manager.   

You are the right fit for this job if you are an idea person, self-starter and ready to work in a high energy, competitive environment, helping produce content for multiple platforms. 

You can shoot, handle live shots with backpacks or microwave.  You are qualified as a drone pilot and have experience training others in their use, know social media best practices and are a team player. You are a compelling storyteller and considered the best shooter and editor among your peers.

WPSD Local 6, the NBC affiliate in the 84th market, needs a newsroom leader to manage our excellent and successful morning newscast. You must be a creative thinker, a great writer, a tireless champion for quality, a problem solver, extraordinarily curious, a person of empathy, intelligence and, most of all, embrace a long tradition of journalism as both watchdog and community servant. You’ll supervise a team including two producers, co-anchors, our Chief Meteorologist, a reporting team and a digital producer.

You will join a management team that includes two other daypart EPs, an Assignment Manager and Chief photojournalists.

You need to understand broadcast television and digital content including web, apps, OTT and social media. You have a passion for meaningful storytelling, breaking news coverage, comprehensive digital coverage and social media. You are collegial with a strong work ethic. This is an award winning well equipped news organization covering parts of four states. Our teammates frequently take the next step to bigger markets. We are convenient to Nashville and Saint Louis. Responsibilities include: Directing newscasts using the Grass Valley Ignite automation system, master control operations including oversight of playlist play out for three channels, checking in program materials and ingesting commercial/promotion materials and editing with Grass Valley Edius software. 

High school diploma or GED required. 

College degree with one year media experience is preferred. 

Strong spelling and grammar skills are essential. 

Must be able to work in fast paced environment.

WPSD LOCAL 6, the dominant legacy NBC affiliate in the 84th DMA has openings for a news associate producer. Full time and part time positions are available. You will learn to research, write, and edit local, regional, and national news stories. You will also perform associated production duties during newscasts. You must conform to the highest journalistic standards and be able to meet deadlines. Excellent writing, grammar skills, the ability to react to changing news and programming situations, and to understand and execute last-moment instructions from newscast directors and producers are essential. You must be familiar with basic computer operations. Video editing experience is preferred. This is an entry level position for those wanting to get to the next step in your career in broadcast journalism. We will help you get there. A writing test and current events test must be passed. The full time spots are a perfect opportunity for a recent graduate to begin a career.
