Nov. 23 - Dec. 31 — Christmas in the Park: Paducah's annual Christmas in the Park light display will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Noble Park. Officials ask attendees to bring a donation of canned goods or money for local agencies and their food pantries.

Local Christmas light celebrations kick off holiday season


Nov. 25–Dec. 25 — Christmas in the Park at Mike Miller Park: The Annual Christmas in the Park Light Show at Mike Miller Park will be held from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. The display includes a life-size Elf on the Shelf, which will move to a different location each night. On Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, the Marshall County Parks Department says to be on the lookout for the Grinch. If you see him, snap a picture and post it using the hashtag #thegrinchatmikemiller to be entered in the Spot the Grinch Challenge. Prizes given away weekly during a Facebook Live drawing. Dec. 16 — Free meal and groceries: Marcella's Kitchen will serve a free traditional Christmas dinner, and each person will receive 1 1/2 bags of groceries with fresh fruit and a gift from the kitchen. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 868 Guy Mathis Dr.

Dec. 25 — Free Christmas Dinner: First Baptist Church of Benton will host their annual free Christmas dinner on Christmas day. They say all are invited to share a  meal of turkey, ham, dressing, potatoes and gravy, green beans, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce, rolls, and homemade desserts from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in the activities building at 10th and Main in donwntown Benton. If you cannot leave your home, you may call the church office to request delivery by Dec. 20 at (270) 527-7575.


Dec. 17 — Christmas Parade: Salem Fire and Rescue says the 19th annual Salem Lighted Christmas Parade has been postponed to Dec. 17 due to the weather forecast for Nov. 26. Dec. 14 — Elvis Christmas Concert: The Tree of Life church in Metropolis is holding an Elvis Christmas Concert from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 605 Metropolis St. According to a flyer about the event, Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus will be in attendance. 


Dec. 17 — Breakfast with Santa: The Boys and Girls Club of Southern Illinois is hosting a Breakfast with Santa event in Carbondale on Dec. 17 from 9 a.m. to Noon at 250 North Springer St. The event is free, with food and gifts sponsored by several organizations, a release about the event states. Santa's workshop will be open at both events, allowing attendees to shop for gifts. None of the items in Santa's workshop are over $1, the release states. Click here to learn more. 


Through Dec. 30 — Let it Glow drive-thru and walk-thru light display: The light show is open from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Discovery Park of America at 830 Everett Blvd. in Union City, Tennessee. Santa Claus will be at Mill Ridge in the park on Friday and Saturday nights. The light display is closed Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Click here for more details.
