JACKSON COUNTY, IL — A man was killed in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 51 in southern Illinois Monday morning, the local sheriff’s department says.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says deputies responded to the crash around 9:46 a.m. on Monday. It happened about a half-mile south of Truax Traer Road in De Soto, Illinois.
Deputies say a vehicle driving southbound crossed the center line divider and crashed into a northbound vehicle.
The southbound driver was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies say they are not releasing his name yet, because his family still needs to be notified.
The northbound driver, 31-year-old Christopher Miller of Carbondale, was injured in the crash. Deputies say his injuries were minor.
A crash reconstructionist is investigating the crash.
In addition to the sheriff’s office, the Jackson County Ambulance Service, De Soto Township Fire Department and the Jackson County Coroner’s Office responded to the crash.
