PADUCAH — Many of you might be wondering what’s going on with a church building in downtown Paducah. Crews are repairing the bell tower at Broadway United Methodist Church.
Storms last year caused damage to the copper on the tower.
“Paducah has rich heritage in these old buildings, and Broadway has always been a part of that for 186 years,” said Rev. Lora Jean Gowan, Broadway UMC senior pastor. “Broadway has been a presence here, and we just felt that it was really important to hold on to that heritage and to restore the originally beauty as close as we could.”
Gowan said it will take three months to complete the work. In total, the project is expected to cost more than $500,000. The church’s insurance provider is helping with that cost.
