LYON COUNTY, KY — One person was killed and three more were injured in a crash Friday morning in Lyon County.

Around 5:30 a.m., Kentucky State Police were called to I-24 eastbound near exit 40 on report of a crash.

Troopers say 30-year-old Kyle Ellis of Vergennes, Illinois was driving a 2007 Freightliner Recreational Vehicle pulling an enclosed car trailer east on I-24 when he ran off into the median.

Ellis overcorrected pulling back into traffic, hitting an embankment and overturning.

Kyle Ellis was pronounced dead at the scene. Three passengers were injured.

27-year-old Michael Herring of Vergennes, Illinois was airlifted to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

49-year-old Donald Ellis of Vergennes, Illinois was taken to a local hospital and later flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville.

28-year-old Nicki Meadows of Du Quoin, Illinois was taken to Mercy Health – Lourdes Hospital in Paducah.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.

Eastbound I-24 at exit 40 is not expected to be cleared until about 2:00 p.m. We are posting traffic updates here.

A dog was also found at the crash site and was being comforted while crews worked to help those in the crash.
