CALLOWAY COUNTY, KY —  Two people were injured after their car crashed early Wednesday morning.

Around 12:24 a.m., Calloway County deputies were called to the 500 block of Douglas Road for a rollover crash.

A 2005 Chevrolet Corvette was found in the center of the road with severe damage. The driver, 26-year-old Jake Wyre of Murray, and passenger, 23-year-old Austin Brittain also of Murray, were still inside the car.

Both were extricated from the car and taken to a local hospital. Brittain was later flown to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for further treatment.

Deputies say it appears the car went airborne, came back down, and then went off the road. It hit several tree and two different ditch lines before stopping in the middle of the road.

Deputies say the car hit the road so hard that the engine broke free and was located almost 500 feet from the car in a creek bank.

An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
