CAPE GIRARDEAU, MO -- A juvenile was shot in the hip after he allegedly stole a car.
Around 6:05 p.m. Monday, Cape Girardeau police were called to the 400 block of Sheridan on report of a stolen car.
Officers searched the area and found the suspect driving the stolen car near Minnesota and Good Hope Street.
Officers stop the car, but the suspect then ran away. He then tried to steal an SUV in the 400 block of South Minnesota.
It was at that time the owner of the SUV exited his home to stop the theft and the two got into a fight.
The suspect then drew a handgun and fired several shots at the SUV owner. The SUV owner had his own gun and fired back.
The suspect, a juvenile male, was hit once in the left hip. He was then taken into custody by police.
The suspect is being treated for a non-life threatening injuries. Both cars were recovered and no one else was injured.
An investigation is ongoing.
