(CNN) — Court began Monday morning in the State v. Derek Chauvin trial at around 10 a.m. ET., in a Hennepin County Courtroom in Minneapolis.
In particular, the chief said Chauvin's kneeling on Floyd for nine minutes and 29 seconds was a violation of the policies around de-escalation, objectively reasonable use of force and requirement to render aid.
Lt. Richard Zimmerman, head of the homicide division for more than 12 years, testified Friday that Derek Chauvin's actions violated policy by pressing his weight down on Floyd's neck for more than 9 minutes while the man was handcuffed and in a prone position.
"Mr. Derek Chauvin betrayed this badge when he used excessive and unreasonable force upon the body of Mr. George Floyd," prosecuting attorney Jerry Blackwell said. "That he put his knees upon his neck and his back, grinding and crushing him until the very breath — no, ladies and gentlemen — until the very life was squeezed out of him."
