MURRAY, KY — Over 300 Murray State fans packed the ballroom at Murray Country Club on Thursday night as they watched former Racer Ja Morant be selected 2nd overall by the Memphis Grizzlies in the NBA Draft.

Morant became the highest draft pick in school history, surpassing Cameron Payne who was selected 14th overall in 2015 by Oklahoma City.

With Morant now heading to Memphis, many Racer fans in attendance couldn’t help but start making plans for his first season as a Grizzly.

“We are going to be there,” Jane Jones said. “Probably half of Murray will be in Memphis.”

“My brother in law lives in Memphis,” said Darold Keller. “He has got his tickets and I just cant wait. I am lining up my seats right now.”

“It is very exciting,” said Bob Hargrove. “My granddaughter has been planning trips because I told her it was the closest professional basketball team we had, so could not have worked out any better.”

Morant will be introduced to the media in Memphis on Friday afternoon.
