Paducah Tilghman introduced Jonathan Smith as their new head football coach on Tuesday.
Smith stepped in on an interim basis after Steve Duncan stepped down in July after suffering a minor stroke. Smith led the Blue Tornado to nine wins and the second round of the Class 3A playoffs. He called last season a learning experience, but it was an experience he thinks will serve him well moving forward.
“I made a ton of mistakes in my first-ever run at it,” Smith said. “I’ll be the first one to admit that. I admitted that to the guys all the time. But at the same time, I was never afraid to admit that. I think the guys saw that and knew the genuineness behind it because I was trying to be honest. That’s all part of the maturation process, for me as a person and as a football coach.”
Tilghman’s nine wins last year were the most in a season since 2011.
