PADUCAH, KY — The Marshall County Lady Marshals won their second straight 1st Region Softball Championship with a 7-5 win over Graves County on Friday night.

Marshall County scored the games first four runs and led 4-0 through two and a half innings. But in the bottom of the 3rd, Graves County answered with five runs of their own to regain the lead.

Much like they did against Paducah Tilghman in the region semifinals, the Lady Marshals bounced back with two runs in the 4th to lead 6-5.

They would add an insurance run in the 5th.

“We weren’t really concerned if they scored because we knew we were capable of scoring 12 runs in one inning because we did it the night before,” tournament MVP Gracey Murt said. “So we just really stayed confident in ourselves.”

“It means so much that they had enough fight,” Lady Marshals head coach Mallory Newton said. “They didn’t go into this tournament thinking we had something to lose, or we had to defend something. It is just we are playing fearless, playing our ball and they were ready.”

The Lady Marshals will now face Madisonville-NH on Saturday at 4:00pm at Western Kentucky in the KHSAA Semi-State round of the state tournament.
