When you have been to the state tournament six straight years, and you’ve been to the state semifinals in each of the last three years, you’re bound to have plenty of state tournament experience. The McCracken County Mustangs certainly have that, especially with their starting pitching.
Senior Dylan Schneider threw a complete game in their semi-state win Saturday against Hopkinsville. Thursday night, McCracken County coach Geno Miller will go with another senior in Jacob Ehling. Both Ehling and Schneider have pitched in Lexington before. Tomorrow, it’s Ehling’s turn and he says that experience means the world.
“It’s big,” Ehling said. “We’ve been on that stage. Me and (Schneider), we both pitched at last year’s state tournament. It’s really good to know we’ve been out there. We’ve pitched in those big games. So when we go out there Thursday, and hopefully Friday and Saturday, it’ll be fine. We won’t be nervous. We’ll just go out there and do our things.”
Ehling comes into the game with a 7-1 record and a 0.84 ERA. He’ll be facing Rowan County’s AJ Hacker. Hacker, Kentucky’s Mr. Baseball, is 11-1 this season with a 0-55 ERA. First pitch for the game is scheduled for 4:30pm Thursday afternoon in Lexington.
