MURRAY, KY -- Murray State's football team has strapped on its pads and laced its cleats once again in preparation of the fall season.

The Racers opened camp on Friday, Aug. 2, under fifth-year head coach Mitch Stewart. This year's camp not only comes with a fresh sense of confidence after a 5-3 OVC season in 2018, but also because of Stewart's new maxim,  "one percent."

"You're never going to do everything 100 percent correct, it's just the way it is," Stewart said. "However, you can always do better. You can always do something to get yourself better. We kind of use the analogy if you ask a room full of people to raise their hand as high as they can, and they raise it, and then you go, 'Hey, raise it just a little bit more.' Inevitably, 100 percent of people can raise it a little bit more. We want to try to live in that area, where we're constantly straining and giving that one percent to make sure that we get ourselves just a little bit better each day."

The Racers will open their season on Aug. 29 when they take on the University of Pikeville.
